Under one collective project, County Grounds Park, Menomonee River Parkway (MNR) Section 9, and Hoyt Park make up the “County Grounds Project”, totaling 185+/- acres, where the goal is to restore and improve habitat for wildlife populations. The project area contains forest, grassland, and wetland habitat that has the potential to support diverse wildlife along the Menomonee River.
Over the years, these natural areas have become degraded, lowering the quality of life for the wildlife species that depend on this urban greenspace as home. This project will include removal of invasive species, grassland and forest restoration, enhancements to the wetlands and an overall goal of restoring native habitat in the project area. Not only will this project work to create a healthier and more sustainable environment for wildlife, but a wonderful place to recreate.
