Havenwoods State Forest Habitat Restoration Design Feb. 2025 Update
This project aims to improve native habitats and expand wetlands through large-scale habitat restoration. Returning the land at Havenwoods to diverse, native plant communities will increase populations of wildlife species that have become rare due to loss of the habitats that they need to thrive.

The Havenwoods State Forest rehabilitation project includes 237 acres of urban land located on the far north side of the City of Milwaukee.
This project is part of a larger effort to return the land at Havenwoods State Forest to southeastern Wisconsin native plant communities and a combination of open and forested landscapes.
The project will include prairie and wetland restoration, management and expansion of the forest landscapes, and control of problematic plant species. Restoring healthy and diverse plant communities at Havenwoods will provide a complementary mix of established native habitat types in Wisconsin’s only urban State Forest.
