After over a decade of planning and design efforts, the South Shore Beach Rehabilitation Project is getting ready to begin!
Located in South Shore Park, in the Bay View neighborhood of Milwaukee, South Shore Beach is beloved by the community. Unfortunately, it is also ranked amongst the worst beaches in the nation, experiencing frequent beach closures due to water quality issues. Informed by years of research, water quality data, and stakeholder input, the project is designed to help reduce those closures in a unique way. Work will see the existing beach converted into greenspace while the rocky beach to the south will be transformed into a sandy swimming area. Other features will include beach access and trail improvements and amenities like a foot wash station.
